The Unofficial Science of Die Hard & Indiana Jones - Sky
We were part of the team that designed and built all of the experiments, test rigs and special effects for these shows. This process involved meticulous testing months before filming started ensuring the science could be accurately and safely put to the test and solved.
This project required an in-depth attention to detail carefully blended with scientific know how to pull off some fun, accurate and truly stunning builds which were taken all of the way from initial design concepts to finished and tested movie accurate experimental builds.
Testing
The high octane precise experiments undertaken in these shows required meticulous testing and refining during a highly focused pre-production phase ensuring that precise, repeatable and safe outcomes were achievable for the presenters ready for the high production studio shoot.
The rigorous testing allowed for a smooth filming period with the known outcomes being achieved in a timely manner to great effect with some truly stunning end results. This recreation of Die Hard's exploding lift shaft was just one example of that.
Animatronics - Design and Build
We love nothing more than the opportunity to build animatronic creatures and props whenever we get asked. With a long history building remote controlled animatronics and vehicles this golden statue that came to life with working light up eye and farting sound and smoke effects was a real joy to create from initial concept to working prop.
Special Effects Rigs
A vast array of SFX were created for these shows ranging from smoke and fire to explosive glass smashing rigs. The photos show a rig that we designed, custom built and used on this shoot allowing us to smash panes of toughened glass on cue when needed. The compact rigs were neatly hidden in the set.

Experiment Builds
The majority of the work undertaken for these shows was designing, building and testing the experimental challenges that re-created and put to the test stunts from the Films. The extensive list ranged from a rusty mine cart on railway tracks that was stopped with a shoe to a controllable compressed air powered sinking sand rig that would swallow a human whole.
