RH&D Railway - Armoured Wagon - 1/12 Scale Model
We love the opportunity to build scale models so when Armoured Engineering asked us if we wanted to work with them and model a 1/12 Scale replica of the RH&D Railways Armoured Wagon we jumped at the chance.
The purpose of this model is for proof of concept. Checking the validity of the Computer Aided Design, (CAD) drawings as part of a Lottery Funded development stage before production of the full sized replica is sanctioned.
CAD Drawing
Working with Armoured Engineering's CAD drawing we were able to divide the Armoured Wagon up into component parts that would be exact scale versions of the real thing. For this build we decided that 1/12th would provide the correct level of detail to make accurate assessments of the drawings validity.
3D Modelling
We used the latest 3D printing equipment to precisely turn the provided CAD drawings into reality. Creating scale polymer versions of what will become the full sized metal marvel. This allowed us to assemble the wagon as if it was the real thing identifying any issues or oversights that may have occurred during the design phase. A sure fire way of saving valuable time and money during the full production phase.
Nearly 400 1mm real aluminium rivets were used in the model assembly, installing them was not a task for the faint hearted.
1/12 Scale Model
The finished 1/12 scale model of the RH&D Railway Armoured Wagon was mounted on a laser engraved presentation board showing details of the build and the clients logo.
When presented to the railway it had the desired effect demonstrating Armoured Engineering's capability and tireless focus regarding attention to detail. They have now accessed the next stage of funding and will be building the full sized replica.
